James Dennis 'Denny' Michael Patrick Riordan, 73, died April 20th at the Good Shepherd Home after a short illness. Mr. Riordan was born July 6th, 1938, in Lynn, Massachusetts. An active and adventurous young man, he once crewed in a test cruise of an America's Cup boat and joined the running of the bulls in Spain. After graduating from college in San Antonio he spent eleven years in the Army Medical Corps as a Health Services Comptroller in hospitals in Nuremberg, Germany, and Vietnam. A devoted car guy, while in Germany he became president of the European Porsche club. Vietnam earned him a number of medals: a bronze star with two oak leaf clusters; army commendation medal with two oak leaf clusters; Vietnam Service medal with four bronze stars; a combat medical badge; armed forces reserve medal; national defense service medal; meritorious unit citation, armed forces honor medal, first class; a Vietnam campaign medal w/60 device. He separated from the army in 1975 while stationed at Ft. Riley with MEDDAC. After working in construction for several years he became a book dealer, buying and selling used, out of print, and rare books over the internet as The Plains Bookman until 2009. He is survived by his wife Karen Lee Killough (author Lee Killough) of the home, sisters Claire Belliveau of Lynn, Massachusetts; Susan Killion of Rotunda West, Florida, Georgianna Magner of Roxbury, Massachusetts, and seventeen nieces and nephews.
