Norman E. Root, 84, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, November 17th, 2017. Norman Eugene Root was born in Enterprise, KS on February 10, 1933, the son of the late Harry Franklin and Lillie Mae (Gannon) Root. He and Velda Jean Reiff were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1957, at the New Basel Church, south of Abilene near Elmo. Norman graduated from the Enterprise High School in 1951 and from Kansas State University in 1959 with Bachelors of Science Degree in business. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 as a GM2 on the USS Cape Esperance during the Korean War. After graduation from KSU, he worked for Flemming Grocery and Farmland Industries as a COOP Manager. He worked for KSU as a Procurement Officer for 14 years. Norman is survived by his wife, Velda Jean of the home; three sons, Monty (Darlene) Root, of Lehigh, KS; Brian (Ann) Root, of Manhattan; Loren (Nicole) Root, of Manhattan; a sister, Opal Whitehair, of Abilene; grandchildren. Shelby Root, Elora Root, Conall Root, Kaden Root and Hailee Root; Amber Pyse and Christina Clay. Norman was preceded in death by his sister, Lurye Emig and his brother Keith Root. At the families request there will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be at a later date at the New Basel Church Cemetery, south of Abilene near Elmo.
