Rose Marie (Dreiling) Hoerman went to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 29, 2018. She was born on February 6, 1929, in Hoxie, Kansas to Peter and Clara (Bollig) Dreiling. She was the sixth of their ten children. Descended from German immigrants in Russia, who were Volga River Catholics, Rose Marie was sent to live with her grandmother at age 12. Communication was difficult because Rose Marie spoke no German but eventually, she became the translator for her devout grandmother who proclaimed the glory of God to all who entered the house. At the urging of both her grandmother and mother, Rose Marie entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Concordia, Kansas at age 16. During her time with the convent, she was educated to become a teacher. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Marymount Catholic College in Salina, her Master's in Education Administration from the University of Detroit, in Michigan, her Masters in the College of Education from Kansas State University. Her first teaching assignment at age 19 was a grade school in Damar (Rooks County), Kansas. She went on to teach in many different schools including USD 383 Manhattan and Flint Hills Christian School in Manhattan, and for Plainville Schools, in Plainville, Kansas. She also served as principal in Boonville, Missouri and Gladstone, Michigan. While teaching an 11th-grade religion class at Luckey High School in Manhattan, she invited a local evangelical, Stanley Hoerman, to speak of his 30 days in the desert. Although neither she nor Stanley knew it at the time, their lives would change forever. They were married on November 2, 1974, at the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Kansas. Mrs. Hoerman is survived by her husband, Stanley of the home, her Brother Robert Dreiling of Wichita, Kansas, and her sister, Sr. Rose Beatrice Dreiling, of CSJ, Concordia, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters. Funeral Sevices will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Manhattan. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation. Memorial Contributions should be made to the First Baptist Church, Manhattan, KS and Women Aglow, which Rose Marie was instrumental in starting in this area.
