Terry ('Sparky') Andrew Schlegel, 61, of Manhattan, passed away Monday, January 26th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Terry was born in Manhattan, on July 19, 1953, the son of Marjorie Frances (Noll) Schlegel and the late William A. Schlegel. He was a graduate of Luckey High School in 1971 and Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, and an avid fisherman. Terry spent most of his career working as an auto technician at Dick Edwards Ford in Manhattan, where he was referred to by many as 'the transmission expert.' He also worked for the City of Manhattan, the Manhattan Auto Machine Shop and the former Livengood Transmission in Salina. Survivors include his daughter, Kassie, wife of Mat Plummer, of Prairie Village, KS; mother, Marjorie of Manhattan; a sister, Teresa M, wife of Kurt McMillan, of Home City, KS, two brothers, Andy, husband of Diane Schlegel, of Alma, KS; brother-in-law: Pat Neel of Wamego, as well as many nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father William A. Schlegel; a brother Matthew S. Schlegel; a sister Shirley F. Neel; a nephew, Billy Neel; sister-in-law, Debbie Schlegel; a great nephew: Owen DeMars and a great-niece, Fayelle Hutchinson. Friends are invited to call on Thursday and Friday from 9:00am-8:00pm. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, with a Prayer/Vigil service beginning at 7:00pm at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation. On Saturday, January 31, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 267 S. Juliette, Manhattan, at 10:00am with Father Joe Popelka officiating. Burial will follow the service at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Flush, KS where his family members are buried. The family requests that donations be made to The Saint Joseph's Chapel for Perpetual Adoration at Seven Dolors, 731 Pierre Street, Manhattan, KS 66502.
