Alberta Jane Meyer, age 87, of Manhattan, Kansas - died peacefully Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at Valley Vista Nursing Home. She was born on December 27th, 1925, daughter to Effie (Kleiner) and Garret Johnson, on their farm between Riley and Leonardville, Kansas. On October 28th, 1945, she married Harold Meyer of Leonardville, Kansas, and they resided in Manhattan, Kansas. Harold preceded her in death on March 10th, 1995. She is survived by her two daughters, Sheri Connor and husband Tim, of Shawnee, Kansas; and Colleen Lord and husband Craig of Belvue, Kansas. Also surviving is her brother Harold Johnson, of Riley, Kansas and sister, Babs Gonser of Paola, Kansas. Alberta is preceded in death by her older sister, Carol Gunckle and infant daughter, Vicki. She was a graduate of Brown Mackie College in Salina and worked for in Kansas City, Kansas and in Denver, Colorado. But she then married and devoted herself to her husband, family and home. Alberta loved her family. Her door was always open for a visit and good conversation. She was a wonderful 'listener' . She loved to sing, play the piano, needlepoint and sew. Her garden and yard was a gift to anyone who entered there. She and Harold loved to dance and 'cut a rug'. As she would say 'we sure had some great times!' At the family's request there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Leonardville Cemetery Leonardville, Kansas.
