Allen Glen "Bim" Bigsby

Allen Glen “Bim” Bigsby, 68, a lifelong resident of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, January 14th, 2015. Allen was born in Manhattan, on May 16, 1946, the son of the late Rufus Allen 'Bun' and Gloria Jeanne (Rhyno) Bigsby. Bim was a graduate of Manhattan High School in 1964. He was a standout athlete at Manhattan high school where he played basketball, was a first-string quarterback on the football team and even set a state record in high jump. He was also voted pigskin prom king his senior year. He was a graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelors' degrees in restaurant management and Geology, and served in the U.S. Army. He was diehard Kansas State Wildcat fan, a painter and a history researcher. He enjoyed completing The New York Times crossword puzzles, was a voracious reader and history enthusiast, and in his spare time he loved going on local archeological hunts, where he amassed a large collection of pristine arrowheads and other finds. Allen is also survived by two sisters, Sandi Lou Bigsby-Zavesky, of Ellsworth, Kansas; Sara Beth, wife of Dante Bigsby-Caruso, of Los Angeles, California; a nephew: Caleb Bigsby; several nieces, Stacy Zavesky-Noordhoek, Stephanie Ann Zavesky, Melissa Zavesky-Barkow, Amy Zavesky-Pruitt, Gina Caruso and Nicole Caruso. He is preceded in death by his parents R. A. “Bun” & Gloria Bigsby as well as a brother Richard Warren Bigsby. At the family's request there will be no visitation or memorial service. The family request memorials to the Kansas Archaeological Society in care of Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home.
