Betty Louise Carpenter, 86, of Junction City, KS,( Formerly of Pocahontas County, West Virginia) went to be with her Lord Sunday, April 26, 2020. Her husband of 51 years, was at her bedside. Born September 15, 1933 in Mobile, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Ivy J. Robison and Pauline Robison. Betty married David Dickens and together they had Dr. David R. Dickens and Larry Dickens. David was killed in action during the Vietnam Conflict. Following David's death, Betty met and married Archie Carpenter at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1969. Archie loved and raised the boys as his own. Archie served in the United States Army and Betty and the boys followed him to multiple stations throughout the world during his career. They eventually chose to make their home in Junction City, following Archie's retirement from Fort Riley. Betty worked as a cashier at a couple of stores during her life. Her passion was predominately caring for her family and gardening. She also worked for the Red Cross for many years. She was a longtime member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Junction City and was one of the founders in the 1960's. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ivy J and Pauline Robison, of Mobile Alabama; her sister Genevieve Robison of Mobile, Alabama; brother Bobby Robison of California, former husband David Dickens of Junction City, a son Kenny Carpenter of Elkins West Virginia. Survivors include her husband Archie Carpenter, sons Dr. David R. Dickens (Angela) who is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Larry Dickens-Carpenter of Henderson, Nevada; Step-Daughter Vicki Shinaberry of Durbin, West Virginia; Step-Son Gary (Renae) Carpenter of Elkins, West Viginia; 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. A private family Inurnment will be held at a later date at the First Baptist Church.
