Betty Lou Mallon, 81, of Manhattan, passed away at Monday, August 29th, at Stormont-Vail Medical Center in Topeka. She and her husband, Joe M. Mallon, owned and operated the Mallon Trash Service for many years, until their sons took over the business. Betty was born in St. George, KS on September 29, 1934, the daughter of the late George W. and Sadie P. (Scott) William. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Mallon on May 2, 1955 in Manhattan at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Betty attended and graduated from the St. George High School in 1952.She was also a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2468, loved bowling where she was a life time member of the Manhattan Women's Bowling League, a member of the Manhattan Women's Bowling League Hall of Fame; a board member of the Manhattan/Wamego USBCWBA and was a member of the Crafty Seniors of the Riley County Senior Center. Betty's children described her as a 'crocheting machine' and would sell her finished projects at many fund raisers at the Town Center Mall. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia L. Mallon, of Avon, CO; Joanna L. Mallon, of Manhattan; seven sons Joseph W. (Janet) Mallon, of St. George; Eugene C. (Pamela) Mallon, of Tuscacoosa, AL; Richard D.(Alicia) Mallon, of Leavenworth; George R. (Cheryl) Mallon, of St. George; Gerald W. Mallon, of Zimmerman, MN; John M. (Brenda Moody) Mallon, of Junction City, KS; Dean A. (Cyndy) Mallon, of Junction City, KS; two sisters, Rose Mathieu, of St. Albans, Vermont; Lois V Gerry, of Topeka; 16 grandchildren and 4 1/2 great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 7 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 grandchild. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 3rd at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation in Manhattan, with Fr.. Kerry Ninemire officiating. The graveside services will follow the service at St. Patricks Cemetery in Ogden next to her husband Joe. The family requests donations to Terry C.
