Bobby "Jack" Watson

May 15, 1930 — October 23, 2018

Bobby "Jack" Watson, 88, passed away on October 23, 2018, at Olathe Medical Center. Jack was born on May 15, 1930, the only child, to Stella and O.R. Watson, on a farm located in Pottawatomie County, Kansas. He moved throughout Eastern Kansas with his parents during his early years, before they settled in Galena, Kansas. He continued to attend school in the Galena Kansas School District, through 8th grade. Jack then moved to Riverton, Kansas in 1945 where he enrolled in school and participated in baseball, football, and basketball. He graduated in May 1949. Upon graduation, he moved to Manhattan, Kansas to live with his Aunt and Uncle, Elise and Clarence Watson, and his cousin Roger Lee. Jack married the love of this life, Pearl Elizabeth Swart on August 9, 1953, in Riley, Kansas. Jack worked several jobs in the Manhattan area, mostly car-related jobs. Then in November of 1951, Jack became a member of the Kansas National Guard, where he continued to serve full time for the following 23 years, working his way through the ranks. Upon military retirement, he became an AC/HVAC mechanic for the KSU Facilities Division. Through commitment and a strong work ethic, Jack eventually became the Director of Facilities for KSU until his retirement in 1992. Jack was happiest with a tool in his hand; whether it was a fishing pole, baseball bat or hammer, he was smiling. He was very active, coaching his childrens' ball teams, fishing, gardening, or just fixing things. He spent many years chasing grandkids and looking forward to their visits. He is survived by all of his children; David (Jill) Watson, of Kansas City, KS, Dale (Lori) Watson of Omaha, NE, Dean (Susan) Watson of Witchita, KS, and Deanne (Mark) Burris of Manhattan, KS, his 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl(July 20, 2018), and his parents. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Colbert Hills Golf Club, from 10:30 AM till 12:00 PM. Memorials in his name can be made to the Tuttle Creek Lake Association "Youth Fishing Clinic". Arrangements have been entrusted to Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.
