Charles H. Schmidt, 92, of rural Wabaunsee County, formerly of Lubbock, TX, passed away Monday, September 14th, at his residence. He served in the U.S. Army as a Lt. Col., Chaplain, during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Charles was also an interim traveling pastor for the Disciples of Christ Christian Church. . Charles was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on October 12, 1928, the son of Alfred W. and Beulah "Sally" Jane (Miller) Schmidt. He attended and graduated from North Platte High School; Johnson University, formerly Johnson Bible College, Johnson City, TN; and received his Master's degree in Theology from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon retirement from the Army in 1986, he became an associate pastor at Westmont Christian Church in Lubbock, TX. Charles was married to Phyllis Jane Owens (deceased) and Luanna Joy Porter (deceased). Charles is survived by three daughters, Julia (Mike) Roblyer, of Alma, Kansas; Leisa (Frank) Goode, of Lubbock, Texas, and Pamela (James) Buehring, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Everett Schmidt (brother), of Johnson City, TN, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruby Schmidt, and his wives; Phyllis Jane Owens and Luanna Joy Porter. A cremation graveside service will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Manhattan, on Sept. 27, 2021, at 11:00 am.
