Dale P. Simon

October 8, 1954 — June 6, 2018

Dale Patrick Simon, 63, of Manhattan, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Via Christi Health Center following a long illness. Mr. Simon was born at Great Lakes Naval Base on October 8, 1954, son of Mrs. Patricia Simon, and the late Donald D. Simon SFC (Ret). He attended Manhattan Public Schools, and graduated from Wakefield High School class of 1973. He attended Manhattan Vo-tech in drafting and engineering, and earned his Bachelors of Science Degree from Friends University. He was retired from Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant as Designer. During his career he also worked for Kansas Gas Service, and drafted homes for Wardcraft, Clay Center, Kansas. Dale loved college football especially K-State, he was a collector of Classic Rock Music and loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of The Citizens Band of Potawatomi Nation, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and a former Boy Scout, Troop 76. He is survived by, his mother Mrs. Patricia Simon, sisters, Donna P. Luttjohann, of Topeka, KS; Theresa Straub, of Wakefield; and brother, Tom Simon, of Topeka; nieces, Tiffany Luttjohann, Lacey Wehrly, Caitlin Luttjohann, Sarah Straub, Andrea Simon, nephews Patrick Simon, Daniel Straub, Jason Simon. He is also survived by his longtime friend and companion Cynthia Smith, his canine companion Ruby, a step-daughter and four step-granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at St. Thomas More, with Father Don Zimmerman officiating with inurnment following at Alma Cemetery, in Alma, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home with rosary following. Donations can be made to The American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge 1120 Pennsylvania Ave KC, MO 64105 or St. Thomas More Catholic Parish. Arrangements have been entrusted to Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.
