Darlene Behrens

Darlene Alice Behrens, 82, of Manhattan, KS, passed away at 11:52 PM, Monday, March 7th, peacefully, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. She worked as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools, at Westmoreland School District 323 Westmoreland for 26 years retiring in 1992. Darlene was born in Diller, Nebraska on February 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Edward Gerd and Katie C (Eden) Roefls. Darlene was a graduate in 1951 from the Beatrice High School in Beatrice, Nebraska. While in school and after graduation she worked at medical office in Beatrice until she met Lowell D. Behrens. They were married on Nov. 16, 1956 in Beatrice, making their first home in Fairbury, Nebraska. She and Lowell moved to Omaha for a number of years and then to their farm home of 32 years in Westmoreland, Kansas. In 1994, Darlene and Lowell decided to move to Manhattan and became active in the community. She and Lowell were members of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas. Darlene is survived by her husband, Lowell D. of the home; two sons Dean (Kathleen) Behrens, of Kansas City, Kansas; Dave (Emily) Behrens, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; also survived by 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Garrels and brother, Dale Roelfs. Friends are also invited to call with family present at 10:00 am on Thursday, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation. Inurnment will immediatly follow at the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.
