David "Dave" Wayne Moran

July 29, 1933 — January 27, 2017

David (Dave) Wayne Moran, 83, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka surrounded by his family. Dave was born July 29, 1933, in Ludington, Michigan. He was the son of Lawrence and Lorna Marie (Lemire) Moran. On November 12, 1952, Dave was united in marriage to Rose Marie Prockish at St. Josephs’ Catholic Church in Flush Kansas, and she survives of the home. Dave was a man that loved his family most of all. His favorite hobbies included bowling, fishing, and going to the casinos with his sons. Dave served in the U.S. Army for three years where he was a veteran of the Korean War and received the Combat Infantry Badge Korean service medal, with 5 bronze camp stars and one overseas bar. He worked at Steel and Pipe, ButterKrust, and Wonder Bread from which he retired. He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW Post 1786 and a member of the Manhattan Bowling Association where he had served as president. Dave is survived by his wife, Rose Marie of 64 years, three sons; Dave Moran and wife Annette of Manhattan, Kansas; Andy Moran and wife Pat of Westmoreland, KS; Jerry Moran and wife Audrey of Alexandria, VA; and four daughters; Carolyn Strafuss and husband Mark of Collierville, TN; Genny Innes and husband Mark of Manhattan, KS; Betty Dunham and husband Chris of Manhattan, KS; Linda Butts and husband Roger of Belleville, WI. He has 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one grandson Bruce Moran; his parents; brothers; Raymond (Skip) and Robert Moran and sisters, Maryland Gillispie and Shirley Manchester. A parish vigil will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 pm. at Irwin-Parkview funeral home in Manhattan, KS. The family will be receiving friends following the service until 8:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 221 S. Juliette, Manhattan, KS on Friday, February 3 at 11:00 am. Internment will follow at the Valley View Memorial Gardens east of Manhattan on Highway 24. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left in memory of Dave to Seven Dolors Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice. Contributions may be left in the care of Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS.
