Diane Adele Dollar

Diane Adele Dollar, 82, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, March 12th at Sloan House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Diane was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 25, 1933, the daughter of the late Henry Allen and Daisy Ileen (Sweeney) Hills. On Sept. 3, 1955, Diane Hills and John Paul Dollar were married at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, he preceded her in death on July, 18, 2015. She was an Art Professor at Kansas State University for over 30+ years retiring in 1998. Diane graduated from Manhattan High School, KSU with a Bachelors degree and a Master Degree of Arts; and a Master of Fine Arts from KU. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church Manhattan, a former member of Pi Beta Phi at KSU; volunteered with Big Lakes Developmental Center, Manhattan Public Library, Manhattan Arts Council, taught swimming at the old city swimming pool, and was active in civil rights. She worked for the Continental Theater Company at KSU and worked many years for the Pine Cone Players in Grand Lake Colorado. She illustrated a number of books, mostly for Ravenstone Press. Diane is survived by her daughter, Allison Dollar, of Keats, Kansas; a son, Matthew Dollar and grandson Orion Dollar, both of Lawrence, Kansas and foster daughter, Mercedes Abraham, of Zeandale, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Dollar, her parents and brother, David Hills. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on March 18, 2016 at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 601 Poyntz Ave in Manhattan, with Fr. Patrick Funston officiating. As per Diane's wishes, her ashes will be scattered at their Victor, Colorado home at a later date. n lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Manhattan Arts Council, 1520 W.
