Don Sr. Yothers

Manhattan, Kansas Don Arthur Yothers, Sr. Don Arthur Yothers, Sr., 77, ofManhattan, passed away Friday, October 7th at the Mercy Regional Health Center, while in the company of his family. Don was born in Hopewell, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1933, the son of the late Edith (Helms) and Darius Yothers. He grew up in Monaca, Pennsylvaniaand graduated fromMonaca High School. Don was married to Susan M. Graham Yothers on September 18, 1959 at Bemus Point, New York.She survives. Don served in the United StatesArmy in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal withthree bronze service stars; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Medal; Marksman; Good Conduct Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Vietnam Service Medal w/four bronze service stars; Meritorious Service Medal. Mr. Yothers was a member of American Legion Post No. 260 - Ogden. In July 2003, he was named Grand Chef de Garedo of the 40 & 8 in Kansas. He was also a member of Vererans of Foreign WarsPost No. 1261 and the Disabled American Veterans.He was a Boy Scout leader; a member of Tuttle Creek Lake Association,where he helped with the annual fishing clinic. He was a T-ball coach, delivered meals on wheels in Ogden, and served as treasurer for his grandson, Matthew Pennell's 2011 school board campaign election. He volunteered to help drive people to the hospital or do whatever was needed. Don is survived by a daughter, Kathy Ann Pennell, of Manhattan, KS; two sons, Don Arthur Yothers, Jr., of Bright, Indiana and Daniel Roy Edward Yothers, of McPherson, Kansas; He is also survived by his grandchildren; Rebekah Brandt (Levi); Deborah Propp (David); Matthew Pennell; Cory Yothers; Nathaniel Pennell;his great grandchildren: Thomas Brandt;Austin Brandt; Anna Propp; Emma Brandt; Owen Propp; Allyson Brandt; Edna Propp; Don is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Juilleratt, of East Rochester, Pennsylvania . He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Frank Yothers, Richard Yothers, Jim Yothers, Herb Yothers, and one sister, Georgia Dennis. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12th at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan with Pastor Robert Flack officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9am until 8pm, with the family receiving friends from 6pm - 8pm. The family requests donations be made to the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 260 - Ogden, Kansas and left in care of the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home.
