Donald 'Donnie' Slater , 76, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, December 25th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Donald Slater was born in Ft. Riley, KS on January 24, 1939, the son of the late Mary E. (Jackson ) and Ervin Slater, Sr. 'Donnie' as many called him, was a graduate of Manhattan High School in 1957 and attended Kansas State University. Donnie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, visited the Bethel AME and the First United Methodist Church both in Manhattan and for many years he worked for Wallace Pest Control. On Feb. 11, 1980 he was united in marriage to Hannelore Winkel in Manhattan and she survives of the home. Also surviving is a son Daniel (Michelle) Duvalier (Slater) of Topeka; a niece: Latausha Coleman, Clarksburg, TN; nephew: Paul Fewell, Jr; Omaha, NE; step-sister: Ida Mae Williams, Topeka and Two grandchildren: Isley Duvalier, Angel Duvalier. He was preceded in death by is parents, Five brothers: Bruce, Edward, Ervin, Jr; Larry and Ronald Slater and one sister Marlene Fewell, A celebration of life service will be held, Sunday, January 10, 2016, at 6pm at the funeral home.
