Eleanor Marie. Thompson, 96, of Manhattan, formerly of Newark, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at her home. She wasa church pianist and Sunday School Teacher since she was a teenager. She alsotaught piano in Newark, Ohio and Manhattan, Kansas. Before she was marriedshe worked at Riley's Bakery in Newark, Ohio. Eleanor was born in Newark, Ohio on March 1, 1921, the daughter of the late Lura Pearl (Iden) and Arthur Euras Lamp. Her 49year marriage to Neil Thompson began on Feb. 14, 1947, inNewark, Ohio. Eleanor issurvived by her daughter, RoseGodfrey, of Manhattan, 4 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Neil, sister Frances L. Lanter and her son Terry N. Thompson. Eleanor received a letterman's jacket in basketball in Jr. High School and graduated from the Newark High School in 1939.She attended the Cleveland Bible College, Cleveland, Ohio.Her love of the Lord and the Bible started as a child and continued throughout her life.In addition to teaching Sunday School and playing the piano and organ, she taught Bible studies, helped with vacation Bible school, women's groups and was a pastor's wife for many years. Eleanor loved to watch birds, travel, fish and fly in planes and got to take a ride in a helicopter with her grandson. In later life, she enjoyed playing checkers and became known as the “Checker Queen”. Her home was always open and filled with joyto anywho wanted to call her mom. When she was 76 she made a new home in Manhattan, Kansas. Soon after she became the pastor of Christian Disciples Fellowship Church. She achieved her goal in life to be a good mother and wife, raising her children in a Christian home. She taught teenagers for many years and many of them still think of her as a second mom. She took them caroling, regardless of the weather, sponsored many parties and trips always having an Easter and Christmas play every year. You closed each chapter of life’s book and only remembered the good times. You have closed your final chapter on earth, we say goodbye and will miss you. You have opened a new book in heaven that will never close and be all good times. Someday we will join you in that new book if we do what you have taught us by your life. WE WILL SEE YOU IN THE RAPTURE!!!!!
