Evelyn Jean Brown, 90, died November 12th, 2016, at The Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. The daughter of Chris Boseck and Martha Emma (Hampel) Boseck. She was born on April 6, 1926, in Cass County, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Lewis, Iowa, from Peru State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska with a Bachelors degree and from Emporia State University with a Masters degree in Librarianship. She was a librarian at Atchison County Community High School, Wamego High School and Manhattan Junior and Senior High School, all in Kansas. On September 6th, 1953 she was married to John Pershing Brown in Manhattan and he proceeds her in death. They were parents to Cathy (Brown) Lykens (Dave), Fairway, Kansas, Bradley Brown, Chapman, Kansas, and Chris Brown (Stacia) of Manhattan, Kansas. They are survived as well by three grandchildren, Clint Brown (Jennifer), Emily and Andrew Lykens, and great-granddaughter Breckyn Lynn Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joh P. Brown; two brothers, Maurice Boseck, Ross Boseck, and six sisters Loine Russell, Fern Behrends, Faye Ihnen, Zoe Kay, Jean Elizabeth Boseck and JoAnn Moll. One sister, Yvonne Krehbiel, survives her. Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan for over 50 years, where she had been a librarian. She was a life member of the Riley County Genealogical Society where she was Editor of Kansas Kin as well as President, Treasurer of Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies, and a delegate to the Federation of Genealogical Societies. She was recognized by the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies and the Federation of Genealogical Societies for her service in preserving family records and histories. She published several family histories as well as researched records in Riley County and the area. Other memberships included LaSertoma where she held many offices including President, Manhattan Ltd. Dance Club where she and her husband were charter members and retained their membership through its twenty-year life. Evelyn will be remembered by many family and friends for her intelligence, quick wit, insatiable desire to learn, fiercely loyal love of her family, and most of all, her kind and giving heart. The family will receive friends from 10:30AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, November 18th at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, KS with Rev. R. C. 'Cam' McConnell officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at the Wamego City Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to the Riley County Genealogical Society or the First Presbyterian Church.
