  1. Evlyn U. Curls, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 28, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. She was 56 years old.Born on February 11, 1968, to Billy Joe and Elrena (Chamblee) Peoples, Evlyn was the youngest of four daughters. She grew up in Manhattan's close-knit southside community, where she was known for her kind heart, radiant smile, and generous spirit. She was also a devoted member of the Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ, where her faith guided her life.Evlyn graduated from Manhattan High School in 1986 and later pursued higher education at Manhattan Technical College, where she earned a degree in Business and Computer Technology in 2003. Her determination to grow and succeed inspired everyone around her.

  2. Family was at the center of Evlyn’s life. Her childhood home was filled with love, laughter, and countless gatherings that taught her the value of togetherness. She carried this legacy forward, sharing her love of cooking, music, and celebration with everyone she met. Most importantly, Evlyn poured her heart and soul into motherhood. Her son was her greatest blessing, and she worked tirelessly to provide him with a life filled with love, faith, and opportunity.

  3. Evlyn is now reunited with her parents, Billy Joe and Elrena Peoples; her son, Aaron J. Curls; her sisters, Lora Peoples Wooten and Janet Peoples Castillo; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Cade; her Godmother, Mary Malone; her niece, Domonique McGeachy; and her great-nephew, Jerel McGeachy Jr.

  4. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her son, Savandis Pinson; her sister, Christine Peoples Cade; her co-sister, Michelle Smith; her God-sister, Mahogany Barr; her nephew, Demontheus Thompson, who was like a brother to her; and her nieces and nephews: Brandon Cade, Angelo McDaniels, Zariah Brown, Brandon Wooten, Kakeia Cade, Ciara Wooten (her “Chocolate Princess”), Malcolm Wooten, and KenYara Cade (her “Honey Bunny”). She also leaves behind two great-nephews, Messiah Wooten and Remy McDaniels, along with countless friends and loved ones who will forever treasure her memory.

  5. The family will host a celebration of Evlyn’s life at a later date to honor her incredible legacy of love, kindness, and joy.

  6. Evlyn’s light touched everyone she met, and her legacy of faith, compassion, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
