Florence Louise Durham, 60, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, April 12th, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Florence Louise Shannon was born in Ridgeway, SC on December 4, 1955, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Eliza (Adams) Shannon. She was the wife of James Durham and they were married on June 21, 1974 in Winnsboro, SC. She attended and graduated from the Fairfield High School in Winnsboro. She traveled with James during his time in the U. S. Army and loved the sights and sounds in Germany and always wanting to return there. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star (OES) in Germany, where she still has her membership. Florence and James attended the The New Church of the Living God in Junction City, and worked for the Ft. Riley Commissary for many years in the warehouse. Florence is survived by her husband, James, Sr. of the home; a daughter, Valerie Denise Durham, of Manhattan; two sons James Durham, Jr, also of Manhattan and Donald D. Durham and his fianc Sydney Franks, of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Martha, wife of Kenneth Belton, of Ridgeway, SC; Betty Shannon, of Ridgeway, SC. two brothers, Walter Shannon, of Ridgeway, SC; Willie, husband of Jean Shannon, of Ridgeway, SC; and also 9 grandchildren. Family members that have preceded her in death are her parents; sister, Laura Jordan and a brother Arthur Adams. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service with Pastor James Johnson officiating, will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
