Frank Davis Morrison, Ph.D., 84, ofManhattan, passed away Tuesday, July 23rd, in Kansas City, MO. He was Emeritus Professor in Horticulture, Forestry & Recreation Resources with Kansas State University. In the early 1900's, Floyd Vinton andAvis Vera (Henry) Morrison homesteaded in Idaho where Frank was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on January 27, 1929. He spent his formative years in Idaho working on the family ranch. In 1951 Frank received his B.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Idaho. On Dec. 23, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lavonna Priscilla Eyrich in Moscow, Idaho. He began his career as a county agent serving various counties in Idaho. Frank later returned to the University of Idaho to earn his M.S. degree in Horticulture. He completed his formal education with a Ph.D. in Horticulture and Plant Science from Michigan State University in 1966. Dr. Morrison spent much of his time as a Horticulture Extension Specialist at Kansas State University. He enjoyed working with the fruit and nut growers in Kansas. He participated internationally as a fruit consultant in different countries. Dr. Morrison was a member of the Manhattan Kiwanis Club, American Society for Horticulture Science, the Shriner's Isis Temple and the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. During retirement, Dr. Morrison enjoyed extensive landscaping projects at their home, as well as developing the Collins Landing Courtyard at Meadowlark Hills with the Manhattan Kiwanis Club and Men's Garden Club. Dr. Morrison issurvived by daughters, Diana Havenstein, and husband Steve, of Joplin, MO; ChristineMorrison, of Taiwan; son Douglas Morrison, and wife Edie of Wamego; son Eric Morrison, of Jordan Valley, OR; daughter Janice Britt, of Lawrence and son Edgar Morrison, of Boise, ID; also surviving are six grandchildren: Jake Havenstein, John Havenstein, Derrick Boos, Kyle Boos, Jessica Staszkiewicz & Janae Britt; and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Lavonna, parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister and a grandson, Greg Havenstein. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 29th, with Rev. Patrick McLaughlin officiating atthe First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The family request donations to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Dr., Manhattan, KS or the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan and may be left in the care of the funeral home.
