With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary L. Romanski, 78, of Ogden, Kansas, who departed this life peacefully on March 10, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.
Gary was born on September 25, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas. A true patriot, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army and bravely serving in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1969. His courage and sacrifice were recognized with the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, and National Defense Medal—a testament to his unwavering dedication.
Beyond his military service, Gary was a man of many talents, but his greatest passion was cars. A gifted mechanic, he spent years working under the hood, especially drawn to his beloved El Caminos. His career also led him to work for the Railroad and later with the State of Kansas RSMS on Fort Riley, where he eventually retired.
Gary’s heart was full of love. He shared a beautiful marriage with Monica C. Payne, the love of his life, cherishing many years together until her passing. Later in life, he found companionship and joy with Vivian Crawford, with whom he created more treasured memories until she, too, was called home.
Gary was deeply committed to his community and was a founding member of the Ogden VFW Post #11374, where he found camaraderie and purpose in serving fellow veterans. He was also a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His love for classic cars and firearms brought him joy and peace.
Gary leaves behind his loving sisters, Kim Romanski (Jerry Morehead) of Ogden and Shelly (Jim) Spurlock of Manhattan, Kansas. His nephews, Joshua and Kyle Spurlock, Shadow Hosier, and his many great-nieces and nephews will forever carry on his legacy—hopefully with a little bit of his humor, too.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Irvin Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM, also at Irvin Parkview Funeral Home. Following the service, Gary will be laid to rest at Ogden Protestant Cemetery, where he will find eternal peace.
Gary was a man of strength, kindness, and resilience. His love, laughter, and stories will live on in those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Gary. Your journey here was well-lived, and your spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those you touched
