Gloria Jean Bean

September 18, 1934 — February 9, 2016

Jean Bean, 81, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, February 9th, while in the company of family members, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Jean was born in Nelson, WI on September 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Arthur Edward and Elizabeth Mary (Clowry) King. She attended and graduated from the Nelson High School in Nelson, WI; and graduated from Kansas State University. On June 17, 1959 she was united in marriage to James V. Bean in Minneapolis, WI who preceded her in death on April 11, 2013. Gloria and Jim enjoyed traveling widely in the United States with winter trips to the Gulf Coast. If the weather in Kansas grew too hot, they would travel to Lake Superior for cooler temperatures. Gloria worked as a comptroller at Kansas State University for 30 yrs until her retirement. Jean is survived by her two sons Jon Bean, of Manhattan, and Michael (Diana) Bean, also of Manhattan; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Bean; and also two sisters, Peggy (Guy) Groshek, of Friendship, WI and Kathy King, of Pocatello, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother and sisters. A funeral service will be held at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation,1317 W. Poyntz, in Manhattan, at 11:00 am on Monday, February 15th, with the burial following at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. The family request donations in memory of Jean to the Terry C.
