Hannelore Slater, 79, of Manhattan, died Thursday, April 4, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan. She was a homemaker and a long-time volunteer at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. She attended the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan. Hannelore was born in Munchen, Germany on October 30, 1939, the daughter of the late Martha (Hedweig) and Heirich Frantz Winkel. On February 11, 1981, she married Donald Slater, in Manhattan. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2015. Hannelore is survived by a son, Daniel Duvalier/Slater (Michelle) of Topeka; two grandchildren, Angel and Isley Duvalier of Topeka; and one brother and one sister in Germany. Hannelore's wishes were that there not be a memorial service. Interment will take place in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan. The family requests no flowers. For those who would like to make a donation in Hannelore’s memory, the family suggests Manhattan Juneteenth or the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. Donations may be left in the care of Carlson’s Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
