Harry Clifford Carlson

Harry Clifford Carlson, 96, of Manhattan, died Wednesday, January 9th, in Manhattan. Clifford was born in Manhattan on September 17, 1922, the son of the late Helen Blanche (Walbridge) and Harry Carl Carlson. He grew up in Manhattan and lived here his entire life. Clifford was united in marriage to Opal Alice Keith in Morland, Kansas on June 15, 1952. Enjoying 65 years of marriage, she passed away on March 15, 2018. Clifford and Opal belonged to First Lutheran Church in Manhattan where they drove the church bus and volunteered in the church pantry for 30 years. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman League. Clifford joined the US Navy in 1943, serving as an Aviation Electrician during WW II. It was here he earned his nickname “Swede”. He worked at Kansas Power and Light in Manhattan for 37 years. Clifford is survived by two daughters, Teresa Gail, wife of Joe Eissler, of Alma, Kansas; Ronda Kay, wife of David Reid, of Roeland Park, KS; a son, Gary David Carlson, of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Dorothy Jean Bean, of Fremont, Nebraska; and a brother, Jerome Banfield Carlson, of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by a second brother, Carl Emile Carlson, of Manhattan. Service will be held on Monday, January 14th at 1:30 pm at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Kansas. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 13th at 6:00-8: 00 pm at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home. Family requests donations to the Lydia Circle at First Lutheran Church of Manhattan, 930 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502, or to Great Lakes Caring Home Health and Hospice Care, 3715 SW 29th St., Ste. 100, Topeka, KS 66614. Interment at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Riley County, KS.
