Hazel Irene Puttkammer, 95, passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2018. She was born on June 26, 1922, in Madison, WI, and was the oldest of 6 siblings. Hazel married Gordon G. Puttkammer on July 30, 1942. They had one daughter, Barbara Jean Peterson, born February 2, 1943. She was preceded in death by both her husband in 1990 and her daughter in 2010. Hazel had lived all over the country during her lifetime - Wisconsin, Indiana, New Mexico, California, Florida, and Virginia. She moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 2012 to live with her granddaughter and her family in her final years. She is survived by four grandchildren: Eric Peterson of Tampa, FL; Chris (Valerie) Peterson of Bealeton, VA; Jill (Dustin) Taylor of Manhattan, KS; Adria Peterson of Richland Center, WI; two sisters, Martha Buckmaster of Verona, WI, and Florence Falk of Poynette, WI; 5 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. Hazel was a caring person who worked hard her whole life to help support her family. She worked most of her career as an electronic assembler for various electrical component manufacturers. She was also a Certified Psychiatric Technician at a California State Hospital caring for disabled children for several years. Hazel loved children and enjoyed babysitting well into her 80s. She liked crossword puzzles and games, reading gossip magazines, crocheting, dancing, camping, traveling, but mostly spending time with her family. Cremation by Irwin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan, KS. Burial will be in early June at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, WI to be followed by a Celebration of Life.
