JC Rivers of Alma Kansas completed his journey here on earth Oct 18, 2017. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He resided in Alma, Kansas for the past 12 years. JC Rivers was born on Feb 16, 1952, in Rome, NY to Ava and James Rivers. His father was in the Air Force and they lived in Newfoundland, Japan, and Texas. He graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio. He was fluent in French and was on the French Debate Team. Later he loved to debate politics and current events just to get a different perspective. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts later in his life. He joined the Air Force and became a Radiology Tech. JC worked at Wesley Hospital, Clay County Hospital, and Geary Community Hospital. He was a McNair Scholar and graduated with honors from Kansas State in 2005 with a BA degree in History. In 2007 he earned his Masters degree in Heritage Resources with honors from Northwestern State in Natchitoches, LA. He was the recipient of the Kathleen Byrd Award. JC was a long time member of AA. He loved sharing with others how his life had been transformed. His greatest passions were AA, cooking, gardening, going to auctions, watching the hummingbirds in the garden, fishing, and his grandchildren. He loved to travel, visit museums and just be a tourist. Trips were planned by where to eat. He had a great love of cats and took in the sick abandoned ones and nursed them back to health. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Jannette, sister Kathleen Rivers, daughters Jennifer Rivers and Crystal Williams, sons Benjamin Rivers, Chris Hall and Scott Hall, grandchildren Emileigh, Hannah and Olivia Speagle, Steven and Charlie Williams, Alex, Abby and Audrey Rivers, niece Becky Horton, nephew James Horton and great-nephew Chris Morales. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, at The First Congregational United Church of Christ at 700 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, Kansas at 2:00 pm. Parking is located behind Landmark Bank across the street.
