Jesse R. Settler, 91, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, May 16th, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan. Jesse, a man who experienced the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and the flood of 1951, was born in Council Grove, on August 14, 1922. Jesse Rhoderick Settler, the son of the late Jesse and Lilly (Rice) Settler. On Dec. 13, 1960 in Manhattan, he was united in marriage to Clara Irving, who died on Sept. 11, 1993. Jesse served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He attended and graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1950, he was a truck driver for the US Army Civil Engineers, was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees and the Riley County Senior Services Center, Jesse is survived by a daughter, Shirley Brown, of Florissant, MO; two grandsons, Kenneth J. Brown and wife Brandy of St. Louis, MO; Keith E. Brown in Minneapolis, Minnesota; three great grandchildren, Melody Peterson, Harmony Peterson & Nicholas Brown; a brother, Emery Settler, of Seattle, Washington and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday 9:00am-8:00pm at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation, 1317 W. Poyntz, Manhattan. On Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 at 11:00am a graveside service will be held at Sunrise Cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley County Senior Services Center, 301 N 4th St. Manhattan, KS 66502
