Jimmie Lawrence 'Okie' Goodmiller, 73, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Jimmie Goodmiller was born in Norman, Oklahoma on December 18, 1938. He was the son of the late Mary Lucy (Bay) Goodmiller and James Malcom Goodmiller. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann Compton on August 1, 1959 in Manhattan, and she precedes him in death on Nov. 1, 2009. Jimmie was a retired foreman for KP&L retiring in 2002. While attending Kansas State University Jimmie was a member of the football team playing for two years. He was an avid supporter of the Rock Creek High School Athletics and enjoyed attending all the activities. Jimmie was a member of International Brotherhood Electrical Workers #304, and a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Jimmie's hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, family and attending grandchildren's events. Jimmie was a very kind and giving person who also loved playing cards with his friends at the Senior Center and Friday night's pitch games with his friends from Westar. He especially loved building trains in his workshop and giving them away to friends. Survivors include his son, Russell L. Goodmiller and wife Christine, of St. George; daughters Mary K. Hoefler and husband Robert, of Manhattan; Mary 'Beth' E. Kemp, and husband Kevin, of Maize; brothers, Charles M. Goodmiller of Ionia, Michigan; Roy O. Goodmiller of Clarksville, Tennessee; Kenzel J. Goodmiller, and wife Joan, of Washington D.C.; sisters, Edith C. Parsons, and husband Don, of Moore, Oklahoma; Mary E. Green, and husband Robert, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Tyler (Niki) Hoefler, Travis Hoefler, Trenton Hoefler, Katelin Hoefler, Kyler Kemp, Kameron Kemp, Kendall Kemp, Jimmie Goodmiller, Jackson Goodmiller, and Joseph Goodmiller. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Thursday from 9:00am to 8:00pm with a Vigil at 7:00pm at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery. The family has requested that donations be the Good Shepherd Hospice House or the Rock Creek High School Booster Club.
