June J. Haynie Carlson

June Jolivette Haynie Carlson, 90, passed away May 5, 2017 in Riley, Kansas at Autumn Hills Memory Care Home. June was born September 9, 1926 in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, the third child of Edwin A. Jolivette and Eda (Heggesta) Jolivette. She graduated from Abbotsford High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. She worked for the U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C. during World War II. June married John C. Haynie, Jr. Four children were born to this union: David Allen, Jacqueline Carol, Wanda Jean and Keith Jonathan. They were divorced in 1959. She married Everett H. Carlson on October 6, 1967. She retired with Emeritus status from Kansas State University in 1989 after working for 30 years in the Department of Agricultural Economics. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Women of ELCA, AARP, KSU Retired Classified Employees Organization, Riley County Senior Service Center, RSVP, Auxiliary of Riley County Rural Carriers Association, Manhattan Women’s Bowling Association and Elks Ladies. Since retiring from Kansas State University, she worked as a volunteer in the Center for Aging Library at K-State, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program and the Riley County Historical Society and Museum. June is survived by children David Haynie (Ann), Lake Waukomis, MO; Jacqueline Haynie, Kansas City, MO; Wanda Allen (Eddie), Riley, KS; Keith Haynie (Carol), Kearney, MO. Stepchildren: Paul Carlson (Cookie), Corpus Christi, TX; April Lewis (Mitchell), Enterprise, KS; Jack Carlson (Janet), Manhattan, KS; Karen Burns (David), Leawood, KS. Grandchildren: David Haynie II, Dallas, TX; Lou Ann Haynie Myers (Damon), Keller, TX; Danielle Bales (Michael), Manhattan, KS; Todd Allen (Christine), St. George, KS; Carrey Black (Michael), Leavenworth, KS; Joseph Lewis, Salina, KS; Brian Carlson (Sutida), Irvine, CA; Denise Dunaway (Kevin), Springfield, MO; Sally Jo Burns of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother: Richard E. Jolivette (Ginny), Fountain Hills, AZ. June was predeceased by husband Everett Carlson; two brothers, Arthur Jolivette, and Wayne Jolivette and two sisters, Carol Paulson and Betty Haakenson. The family of June Carlson wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the owners and staff of Autumn Hills – Riley, for the excellent care and loving support given to June and family during her time with you. You became her extended family whom she loved and enjoyed. Thank you for loving her and seeing her for who she truly was in spite of the challenges of her health. Her final years were better because of each of you. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan, KS. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service. Private family inurnment will be in the Walsburg Cemetery, Walsburg, KS, at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walsburg Lutheran Church, Riley County Historical Museum, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
