Kenneth Leslie Jackson, 94, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, August 16th, at Mercy Regional Health Center. He was a Retired Lt. Colonel with the US Army, serving during WW II, helping to rebuild Germany after W.W.II, and Vietnam War earning a Bronze Star, Gold Leaf, and a Commendation Medal. Kenneth L. Jackson was born in Pierre, SD on December 24, 1918, the son of the late Leslie Thomas and Lilas Rose Cooley Jackson. He was united in marriage on October 19, 1940 at Pierre, SD to Lillian Ida Maher who passed away on October 8, 1996. Kenneth attended the Maryland University while in the service. Survivors include two daughters, Mary JoAnn Leickert-Abbott, of Virginia Beach, VA; Peggy T. Rouse, wife of Richard, of McMinnville, OR; two sons Jerry P. Jackson, husband of Mary, of Manhattan; John Jackson, husband of Kim, of Junction City. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a son Thomas Jackson, brother Merrill Lloyd and sister, Opal Alice Gjeraee, A service of remembrance with the family receiving friends will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan. The family request donations to Riley County Humane Society or American Lung Association and maybe sent to the funeral home.
