Kim Andrew Tomasch

Kim Andrew Tomasch, 65, of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, in a Vicksburg, Mississippi hospital. Kim's unexpected illness was swift, occurring while exploring historical sites of the Gulf Coast with his brother, Bret. Kim was born July 14, 1947 in Lake Placid, New York, to Elmer J. and Sadie (Pelkey) Tomasch. He grew up in Manhattan, attending local schools, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1965, and then attending Kansas State University, receiving both Bachelors and Masters degrees in history and education. He taught high school in north central Kansas before returning to Manhattan, then to Oak Ridge, Tennesse, and finally to St. Joseph, Missouri, where his love of animals channeled into employment with the Friskies Co. Kim was knowledgeable of U.S. and World History and particularly enjoyed exploring the sites and museums on his annual vacations. Kim was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in St Joseph. Kim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers, Lyndon (Linda) Tomasch of Olathe, Kansas and Bret Tomasch of St. Joseph, Missouri; his nieces and families Lisa (Larry) Sonsthagen, Matthew, Emily and Zachary, and Lori (Dwayne) Smith, Marisa and Riley, and cousins and friends. Graveside services and burial will be at2:00 PM November 1, 2012. The family will receive friends from1:00 to 1:30 PM at the Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, in Manhattan, where a procession will form to go to the Sunrise Cemetery.
