Lawrence A. Hedman

Lawrence Albert Hedman, 96, of Manhattan, died Saturday, November 4th, at Via Christi Health Center- Manhattan. He was heating and plumbing supervisor for 37 years, 1946 to 1983 at KSU. Lawrence Hedman was born in Garrison, KS, on October 4, 1921, the son of the late Frank Albert and Minnie (Anderson) Hedman. He was united in marriage on April 29. 1942 to Lois Leona (Meyer) Hedman, they were married at 600 Moro, which was the church parsonage. Lois preceded him in death on July 8, 2014. Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, he served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. during WW II European Theatre, Asian Theatre with the Military Police, riding Harley and Indian motorcycles. Larry and Lois joined and traveled with Man-Kan Campers; they spent 25 winters in Mission, Texas, they enjoyed Wagon Wheel square & round dancing, he loved to fish & hunt and was a member of Pearce-Keller Post No. 17 of the American Legion in Manhattan. Larry is also survived by a son, Gary (Dee) Hedman of Doniphan, NE. daughter in law Judy Hedman of Manhattan KS; three grandchildren, Bree Nickerson (Dave) of Cincinnati, OH; Nicole McGrew (Mike) of Lees Summit, MO; Travis Hedman (Trisha) of Grand Island, NE; eight great-grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Hedman; son, Ron Hedman Aug. 19, 2013; sisters, Bernice Hedman and Betty (Jarold) Ukena; twin brothers, Dale & Delbert Hedman. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 13th at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation, with Rev. Melanie Martin officiating. Inurnment will be at the Leonardville UMC Cemetery.
