Lois Leona Hedman, 93, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, July 8th, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. Lois was born in Leonardville, on May 25, 1921, the daughter of the late Carl B. and Minnie (Nelson) Meyer. She graduated from Leonardville High School in 1939, where she excelled in sports and graduated from Stewart's Beauty Academy in Topeka in 1941. Lois was united in marriage to Lawrence 'Larry' A. Hedman on Apr. 29, 1942 in Manhattan and had been married for 72 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Lois worked as a beautician for many years, and as a clerk for the Probate Judge of Riley County for 14 yrs and at Ag Press for 7 years. Lois and Larry loved to travel and camp in their motor home, they were members of the Man-Kan Campers, and for 25 years they spent the winters in Mission,Texas enjoying the social times and their work at the local Post Office sorting the mail and delivering packages to all of their neighbors and friends, they also enjoyed Wagon Wheeler Whilers Square Dance Club square & round dancing, but most of all she loved to crochet afghans for her entire family. Lois is also survived by her husband Larry of the home; one son Gary L. and Dee Hedman, of Donavan, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Judy Hedman of Manhattan; three grandchildren; Bree and Dave Nicholson of Cincinnati, Ohio; Nicole and Mike McGrew of Cincinnati, Ohio; Travis and Trisha Hedman of Grand Island, Nebraska; one step-grandson, Jeff and Shelly Kitchen of Texas; 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Opel Haden, of Salina and Patricia and Gerald Ward, of Tarboro, North Carolina. and brother, Charles and Bert Meyer, of Manhattan. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, a son Ron Hedman on July 19, 2013, a brother Harold Meyer; four sisters, Lila Smith, Viola Carlson, Edith Shandy, and Wilma Miller and a sister-in-law, Alberta Meyer. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, July 15th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation, on Wednesday, July 16th, at 10:00am. Inurnment will follow at the Leonardville UMC Cemetery.
