Lorene Henrietta McAtee, a beloved figure to all who knew her, passed away peacefully at her home in St. George, Kansas on April 2, 2025, just months shy of her 94th birthday. Born on July 4, 1931, in Blue Rapids, Kansas, Lorene led a life rich with love and laughter, characterized by her dedication to family and her vibrant spirit.
As a devoted wife and stay-at-home mom, Lorene poured her heart and soul into creating a nurturing home for her daughter, Mary Jo Jones of Grove, Oklahoma. She was more than just a mother; she was a proud grandmother and an accomplished seamstress and cook. Her grandchildren, Jamie Gilbert (Johnny Gaulf) and Jessica Beltran (Jaime), along with her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Everett, Adelyn, Joshua, Samuel, and Benjamin, will forever cherish the memories of their grandmother’s loving embrace and the joyful treats she always prepared, especially her famed peanut butter cookies and her delicious fried chicken mashed potatoes and gravy.
Lorene was known for her remarkable resilience and unwavering spirit. No matter where life took her, her readiness to adapt and her happiness were infectious. She had a gift for making every place feel like home, her cheerful demeanor shining through any challenges she encountered. With a contagious laugh and a heart full of love, Lorene brightened the lives of those around her. Her hobbies reflected her creativity and resourcefulness, as she cherished sewing, needlework, cooking, and baking, along with a passion for nurturing her own garden.
Despite her stubborn and strong-willed nature, it was Lorene's loving heart that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a pillar of strength for her family and a source of inspiration through her actions and warmth. Lorene's steadfast love was complemented by the joyful spirit she brought into every gathering, making even the simplest occasions feel special.
Lorene is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Jo; her brother Kenneth Meyer and Joyce Meyer of Seneca, Kansas; and her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry forward her legacy of love.
Lorene is predeceased by her son-in-law David Jones, her parents Henry and Esther Meyer, her loving and devoted husband Kenneth McAtee and numerous other loved ones.
A Visitation will be held on April 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, both at Christ Lutheran Church, 4592 Green Valley Rd, Manhattan, Kansas.
