Lula Marie Poe

Lula Marie Poe, 80, of Manhattan, passed away on Tuesday, February 21st, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Lula Marie Madison was born April 30, 1931 in Newbern, Alabama the eldest of fourteen to the late Carrie (Norfleet) and Tommie Madison, Sr. She was united in marriage to Renzie M. Poe, Jr. in Newbern, Alabama on January 26, 1957. She graduated with a bachelors degree from Tennessee State University in Nashville. Lula retired on December 21, 2002 from Kansas State University, where she worked as an administrative assistant with the Architectural Engineering department. Lula was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, as well as Circle Six at Seven Dolors; BPW (Past President). She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and taught English as a second language. Lula Marie Poe is survived by two daughters, Theresa A. Stinson, wife of Willie, Oakland, California; Janevelyn Y. Poe-Davis, wife of Gerald Ogden; two sons Renzie M. Poe III, husband of Terri Wamego, Kelvin M. Poe, husband of Cynthia of Wamego, seven sisters, Mamie L. Hamler, of Chattanooga, TN; Diciree Wheeler, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Dr. Lenora M. Poe, of Berkley, California; Francis Stephens, of San Leandro, California; Willa Logwood, of Oakland, California; Pearl Langworthy, of Oakland, California; Margaret Madison of Nashville, Tennessee; four brothers, Bobby Madison, of Oakland, California; Charles Madison, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; William Madison, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Samuel Madison, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a half sister, Lou Helen Lark, of St. Louis, Missouri. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Willie Glen Stinson, Jr., Tanecia Stinson, Renzie M. Poe IV, Cameron Poe, Jasmine Yvonne Bean, Kendall Poe, Isaac Poe; 1 greatgrandson, Ronde LeDrew McElveen. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Robert Madison and Dr. Thomas Madison, Jr. Friends are invited to call on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 from 1-8pm, with a parish vigil service at 7:00 pm, at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, February 27th, with Father Joe Popelka officiating at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Manhattan, burial follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Home Care and Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Dr. Manhattan or Meals on Wheels.
