Marcelyn "Marcy" E. Rolfs

Marcelyn 'Marcy' Enola Rolfs passed away on Sunday, March 5 at Via Christi Village in Manhattan, KS. She had been receiving hospice care from Home Health and Hospice in Manhattan. Marcelyn was a longtime resident of Manhattan, KS Marcelyn E. Rolfs was born on October 31, 1934 in Brighton, Colorado to Francis “Swede” Rolfs and Wilma (Richter) Rolfs. Her father passed away from Tuberculosis in 1938. She lived with her mother, brother Gary Rolfs, and her grandfather William H. Richter north of Winkler in northern Riley County, Kansas. Marcy’s mother Wilma married Charles Hedke in 1945. She graduated from Randolph schools in 1952. In 1955 she received her Nursing Degree from Marymount College in Salina, KS. Marcelyn served as a nurse at Saint Mary’s Hospital (Manhattan, KS), the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), and Bethany Hospital (Kansas City, KS). She retired as Operating Supervisor of Surgery at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Manhattan in 1992. Marcelyn was a longtime member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Her strong faith was very important to her, and she treated everyone with Christian generosity. Marcelyn enjoyed the fine arts, especially Opera and classical music. She regularly played the piano and organ. She also enjoyed travel to places like New York City, Europe, Hawaii, Chicago, and San Francisco. She was always accompanied by friends and family. Marcelyn was preceded in death by her father, Swede, in 1938 and her mother, Wilma Hedke, in 2002. Her sister, Charlene Ryan, passed away in 2016. She is survived by her sister, Mary Jo Hampl of Marysville, KS and her brother, Gary Rolfs of Southgate, MI. She is survived by several nieces and nephews in Kansas, California, Oklahoma, and Michigan. Her Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 9 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, with a luncheon will follow the service. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM at the Fancy Creek Cemetery near Randolph, KS.
