Margie M. Howard Yeager Margie Mae Howard Yeager, 88, of Manhattan, formerly of Wamego, passed away Wednesday, October 30th, at Mercy Regional Health Center. Margie Akin was born in Summerfield, Kansas on July 11, 1925, a daughter of the late Cora Belle (McAtee) and Norson Harvey Akin. She grew up in Beattie, Axtel & Summerfield area, graduating from Axtel High School in 1942. She had been married to Lester O. Howard, they were divorced, he died in 2000. On Oct. 7,1983 in Manhattan, she married Oliver Homer Yeager, who died on Aug. 3, 2000. Margie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, and was a member of the Lydia Circle at the church. She was employed at Duckwalls in Wamego, Wamego Drug Store, Norton's Drug Store- Manhattan, and Vanderbilt's retiring in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Irvine, of Pahrump, Nevada; a son, Don Howard and his wife Diann of Manhattan, a sister, L. Joyce Clark and husband James Clark of Shawnee, Kansas, and a brother, James Norson Akin, husband of Harriett, of Council Grove. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Bryan Fleenor & Renee Neumann of Lakewood, Colorado, Ryan Howard & Carmen Trujillo of Katy, Texas & Jordan Howard of Nashville, Tennessee; and a great granddaughter, Eva Howard of Katy, Texas and sister-in-law, Joyce Akin- Wamego. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother William Akin. A memorial service will be held at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation in Manhattan, on Saturday, November 9th, at 11:00 am.
