Marva J. Mead, 92, died at home on Sunday, May 6, 2018, in Junction City KS. Marva was born on January 28, 1926 in Kansas City MO. She moved to Junction City in 1951 where she managed the Satellite Club in the late 50's and early 60's. She was an accomplished singer/songwriter with her own band called Marva and the Satellites. She managed the NCO Class 6 liquor store on Custer Hill in Fort Riley. Marva was the oldest living charter member of the V.F.W. post 8873 which was started 62 years ago. She also spearheaded the effort to integrate the city swimming pool in the early 60's. When Martin Luther King was assassinated she formed a club called The Equals and she would hold meetings at her house and members had to pledge to not cause any trouble during a turbulent time in our history. Marva was loved in our community and will be missed by everyone. Marva is survived by 5 children: Beverly Routt, Colorado Spring CO, Amentho Kahin, Los Angeles CA, Michael Mead, Everett Mead, and Benjamin Mead of Junction City KS. 7 grandchildren: Toni French, Gainsville VA, Roger Twitty, Colorado Springs CO, Francis Mead, Oakland CA, Micheal Mead, Sacramento CA, James Kahin, Dallas TX, Mirium Monette, Dallas TX, Nefertiti Kahin, Las Vegas NV, Chaka Khan Kahin (deceased) and 7 greatgrandchildren.
