Mitchell Lynn McCorkle, 69, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
Mitchell was born in Emporia, Kansas on April 18, 1953, the son of Ovid “Corky” and Mayetta McCorkle. He attended the Emporia technical college where he studied electrical and then HVAC. He married Rita on August 29, 1972, in Emporia, Kansas. Mitchell worked for Modern Air in Emporia before moving to Manhattan where he spent the next 20 years working for M&S Plumbing. He eventually moved on and worked for McDonald’s traveling between Wamego and Abilene working on the HVAC systems up until his retirement.
Mitchell had a heart of gold and was always willing to help those around him. He had a funny sense of humor and an addictive personality. His family, friends, and co-workers always knew they could rely on him. He enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was going to the park, taking vacations, or going to the lake to roast hotdogs and marshmallows. He also enjoyed taking pictures and would frequently be asked to assist with taking photos for special occasions. Mitchell attended bible study and church regularly. He wanted to continue to grow close to God while helping others to learn about him as well.
Mitchell is survived by his wife, Rita A. (Jones) McCorkle of Manhattan, along with 4 sons, Michael of Manhattan, Richard (wife, Becky) of North Carolina, Joseph (wife, Didi) of Texas, and James (wife, Lea) of Washington State, as well as one daughter, Desiree Jones (husband, Montell) of Manhattan/ Kansas City, and 7 grandkids, Raven, Carlos, Lillian, Zoey, Nevada, Jaydyn, and Eli, and 2 great grandkids. He also leaves behind 3 sisters, Anita Stroud (husband, Cal) of Utah, Nancy Latimer of El Dorado, Kansas, and Donna Carpenter (husband Dave) of Lebo, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Ovid “Corky” McCorkle of Emporia, his mother, Mayetta McCorkle of Emporia, and his brother-in-law, Steve Latimer of El Dorado.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson’s Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home on Friday April 21, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
