Mrs. Thelma M. Ransom

September 9, 1920 — July 14, 2015

Thelma Maxine (Hook) Ransom, 94, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Thelma Maxine Hook was born in Pleasant Plains, on September 9, 1920, the daughter of the late William Ernest and Ola (Johnston) Hook. Thelma graduated high school and attended Draughon's Business College in Little Rock, Arkansas. On October 12, 1940, in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to James Doyle Ransom. She was a homemaker, farmer's wife, and bookkeeper at Martin Feed Company for more than 20 years. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ in Pleasant Plains, and while in Manhattan, she attended the Manhattan Church of Christ. Thelma is survived by a son, Michel Ransom, PhD (Nora), of Manhattan; 2 grandchildren, Jessica Weed (Ken) of Spokane, Washington, and Brian Ransom of Gainesville, Georgia; 3 great grandchildren, Annalyse, Avery, and Areighly Weed of Spokane, Washington; niece, Linda Ransom Jackson (Richard) of Batesville, Arkansas; nephew Ricky Ransom (Becky) of Cushman, Arkansas; and niece, Carol Barber (Charlie) of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Lois Hook Brown and Ernestine Hook Ransom; and a brother, Hershel Lynn Hook. Visitation is from 9:00am to 10:00am on July 17, 2015, at the Pleasant Plains Church of Christ in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, with the funeral service beginning at 10:30am. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Friends are invited to send flowers to the Willis Funeral Home, 3513 Harrison St., Batesville, Arkansas 72501.
