Nancy C Havenstein, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away Tuesday morning, August 20, 2019. Nancy was born in Manhattan, Kansas on December 19, 1930, to Walter and Ethel (Brown) Gravenstein. She attended the Manhattan schools and Graduated from Manhattan High School in 1948, graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelors Degree in 1972 and in 1977 with a Masters of Education. On May 4, 1949, she was married to her sweetheart, H. Neil Havenstein in Manhattan, Kansas. Together they had three sons. Nancy was a lifetime member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Manhattan. She was a teacher at USD #383 until she retired after 20 years. She volunteered as a tutor for many years after she retired. Nancy is survived by her sons, Robert (Nancy) Havenstein, of Lamar, CO, Steven (Diana) Havenstein, of Manhattan KS, Michael (Patsy) Havenstein, of Manhattan, KS; her sister, Sandy Woodward, of Redding, CA, her brother, Don Gravenstein, of Stillwell, KS; as well as 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Neil; two brothers, Walter Gravenstein and George Gravenstein, and a grandson Greg Havenstein. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St Luke's Lutheran Church 330 Sunset Ave Manhattan, KS 66502 or the American Cancer Association, or the St. Luke's Fund for Parents who have lost children. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Burial to follow at Sunrise Cemetery. A Visitation will be on Sunday, August 25, 2019, from 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.
