Naomi Pearl Scott Naomi Pearl Scott, 100, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, June 10th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was known for a being a community activist. Naomi Pearl was born in Delia, KS on March 16, 1917, the daughter of her late mother, Reta Mae (Manion) Cederberg and her father Joel Mellen. On June 15, 1946, in Manhattan, she was united in marriage to William L Scott and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1994. As an activist, Pearl, was an accompanist for over 82 yrs with the Ashland Community Church, playing the organ for church services (her last Sunday service was on May 29, 2017), weddings and funerals at the church as well as the Manhattan area. Pearl was also a former leader for many years with the Ashland Boosters 4H Club, she was a Sunday School teacher, and belonged to the to the Ashland F.C.E. and the Ladies Aid Society as well as the Fort Knightly Social Club Pearl is survived by two sons Mel R. Scott and wife Ruth, of Topeka, Kansas; Sean R. Scott, of Blair, Nebraska.; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd & Reta Cederberg, her husband William L. and her daughter, Marsha Lynn Schmeal. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 13th at Ashland Community Church in Manhattan, Kansas with Pastor Paul Barkey officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Ashland Cemetery.
