Nelva May Wilcox Nelva May Wilcox, 93, of Manhattan, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, at Mercy Regional Health Center. She was retired from the USDA Grain Marketing Research Center after 25 years of service. She also had worked for the Comptroller's office at Kansas State University and with the Manhattan Credit Bureau. Nelva May Harris was born in Dunlap, Kansas on July 2, 1918, the daughter of the late Verna Charlotte (Daharsh) and Orel Clyde Harris. Nelva was united in marriage on May 28, 1939 in Americus, to James Edward Wilcox, who preceded her on Dec. 1, 2011. She attended the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia while Jim was completing his Bachelors and Master of Science . Nelva Wilcox was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, the AARP, NARFE, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Nelva is survived by two daughters, Nancy W. McClanathan, of Manhattan; Connie J.W. Walker, wife of Duane, of Manhattan, two granddaughters, Morgan Morton and wife of Jeff of Burleson, Texas; Megan Johnson of Manhattan; two grandsons, Troy Walker of Terra Haute, Indiana; Wade Walker and wife Deidra of Lenexa, Kansas; and three great granddaughters, Gracie and Kylie Morton; and Christina Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim of 72 years, and a brother Wylie Harris. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Konza Environmental Education Program (KEEP) Valorie Wright Legacy Fund #F40760 at the KSU Foundation.
