Pauline Josephine Bushey

Pauline Josephine Burlie Bushey, 99, of Manhattan died on Dec. 28, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Pauline, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was born on September 11, 1912 in Bluff City, Kansas, to Charles and Mary (Mraz) Burlie. She and her family moved to Anthony, Kansas in 1918 where she attended grade school and high school through her junior year. Her senior year she attended the Immaculate Conception Academy for Girls in St. Marys, Kansas where she met her future husband, Henry (Hank) Phillip Bushey. After graduating from high school, Pauline attended St. Mary of the Plains (a women's Catholic Junior College in Dodge City, Kansas) for one year. Pauline and Henry P. Bushey were joined in matrimony on October 3, 1934, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony, Kansas. He preceded her in death in November of 1973. Pauline and Hank made their home in St. Marys, Kansas where they raised their two daughters. They moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1961. Pauline worked as a volunteer in the library of St. Marys Catholic Grade School in Flagstaff for several years and enjoyed the wonderful staff and joyful children in that school. In 1996 she moved to Manhattan, Kansas to be closer to family and lived in the Georgetown Apartments until May in 2007 when she moved to Assisted Living at Via Christi Village. Holding her in loving memory are the following family members; her daughters and their husbands, Mary Pat and John Johannes of Manhattan, Kansas, and Janie and Wayne Ernst of Boise, Idaho: six grandchildren; Sherry McKee (Wes), Salina, Kansas; Tracey Evans (Link), The Woodlands, Texas; Greg Johannes (Jennifer), Wamego, Kansas; Christine Donnelly (Thad), Wamego, Kansas; Kelly Parsley (Pete) of Boise, Idaho, and Lisa May of Boise, Idaho, and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her two brothers, Louis V. Burlie and Charles J. Burlie. Her family is deeply grateful for the care she received from the staff at Via Christi Village and The Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan and Mercy Regional Health Center. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home with a vigil being recited at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be Wednesday January 4 at 10:30am at the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Manhattan, with burial following at the Calvary Cemetery in Flagstaff, Arizona. The family suggest memorial to the Sacred Heart Jr./Sr. High School in Salina, Manhattan Catholic Schools or the American Cancer Society.
