Phyllis J. Mentgen, 79, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019. Phyllis was born in Anthony, Kansas on March 13, 1940, to Emma S. (Scheel) and Gilbert M. Tonn. On October 3, 1959, she married the love of her life Gerald Mentgen, at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, in Manhattan, KS. She was an active member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, serving on the Altar Society; a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Women; Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority; and the General Federated Women's Club. She worked as an accountant at Kansas State University for forty-three years before she retired in 2002. Phyllis is survived by her husband Gerald Mentgen, of Manhattan, KS, her two sisters, Lanora (Alan) Waggoner, of Hutchinson, KS; Valetta (Allen) Snell, of Fairfield, OH, beloved nieces and nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ray Tonn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, on Thursday, January 2, 2019, at 10:30 AM, Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2019, from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a Vigil at 6:00 PM, at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation. Memorials in her name may be donated to the Alzheimer's Association, Seven Dolors Catholic Church or the Meadowlark Parkinson's Program. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.
