Robert Lee Doyle, 85, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, August 4th, 2012, at Via Christi Village. Robert Lee Doyle was born in Winnsboro, Louisiana on December 3, 1926, a son of the late Katie Lee (Swayzer) and Lawyer Doyle. He was raised and attended school in Louisiana. In 1966, Robert moved to Manhattan where he met Doris Marie Powell. They were united in marriage October 6, 1969 in Junction City, Kansas. Robert served in the US Army as Sergeant First Class. He served over seas in the Vietnam War while he was enlisted with the armed forces. Robert retired from the US Army in October of 1969. After serving his country he worked in Fort Riley at Irwin Army Hospital. He also worked for KSU in the student union and Maintenance at the Sale Barn. He was a member of the V.F.W. Lee Pierson Post 1786 and the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Manhattan. Robert is survived by his wife Doris Marie Doyle, of the home; three daughters, Ada Mahmud, of Kansas City, Kansas; Roberlynne Doyle, of Boulder, Colorado; Sharon Doyle, of Boulder, Colorado; two sons, Oren Doyle, of Tampa, Florida; Fr. Henry Doyle, of Faribult, Minnesota; two step-daughters, Carla harris wife of Gerald, of Spartenburg, South Carolina; Rita Lewis, of Manhattan, Kansas; one step-son; Maurice Harge, of Sacramento, California.; one sister; Rubye J. Washington, of Sante Clare, California; a special brother-in-law; Marion Refroe, and many granchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Katie and Lawyer Doyle and 2 step-daughters Joyce M. Powell and LaDonna Jean Powell. As well as brothers George Doyle, Lee Arthur Doyle, C.L. Doyle, Edward 'Dee' Jones, Lorenzo Doyle and 4 sisters Katie Smith, Mahalia Blackmon, Leola Roshell, Cassie Lee Eaton, and Mary Dale. Friends are invited to call from 7:00pm to 8:00 pm. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation. The funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Manhattan.
