Robert E Hoerner

February 20, 1924 — February 18, 2014

Robert Earl Hoerner, 89, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, February 18th, at his home, he was born on February 20, 1924 in Manhattan, the son of the late Helen (Thompson) and George F.C. Hoerner. Robert was a farmer in the McDowell Creek area for many years. He attended the Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church, Manhattan and very active at the Flint Hills Breadbasket and was the 2013 Volunteer of the Year. On May 26, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Cox in Manhattan and she passed away on Feb. 19, 2007. Survivors include his four daughters, Kay (Toby) Powell, of St. George, Judy (Bob) Livingston of Manhattan, Betty (Matt) Schneweis, of Manhattan and Janet (John) Chase, of Leonardville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bret Hartigan, Jason (Mary) Barry, George Quick and Ashley Newbrough; great-grandchildren, Allan Michael, Danielle, Christopher, Austin, Julianna and his great-great-grandchild, Michael Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary Ellen (Cox) Hoerner. At the family's request there will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church, 835 Church Ave. in Manhattan at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21st, with Rick Haworth officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, #2, Topeka, KS 66601 or the American Heart Association, 5375 SW 7th St, Topeka, KS 66606. Service are conducted by Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation.
