Rowland Thomas (Tom) Devereaux, age 82, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away July 2, 2024. He was born in Lockport, New York, on January 25, 1942, to the late Thomas J. Devereaux and Victoria (Rowland) Devereaux of Barker, New York.
Tom married Suzanne Everson, July 4, 1969, in Salamanca, New York. They later divorced. He is survived by their two daughters, Debra Devereaux of Dolores, Colorado, and Deanna Retzlaff (Robert) of Westmoreland; two granddaughters, Abigail (Retzlaff) Welfringer (Tyler) of Quenemo, KS, and Elle Retzlaff of Westmoreland, KS; three brothers, Bruce (LuAnn) Devereaux of Barker, NY, Peter (Priscilla) Devereaux of Barker, NY, and Brian (Bonnie) Devereaux of Starkville, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews.
After a brief service in the army, he completed degrees at Cornell University and Colorado State University. Tom spent his entire career serving as a 4-H Youth Development Cooperative Extension Agent in Chautauqua County, New York; Broward County, Florida; and Eagle County, Colorado. He retired and moved to Kansas to be closer to his grandchildren. His favorite activities were riding the tractor, gardening, watching baseball, and appreciating old barns.
A service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your county/district 4-H program or other youth leadership group.
