Rufus L. ('Bubba Gump') Terry Rufus Lee Terry,commonly known as 'Bubba Gump', 55, of Ogden, passed away Wednesday, July 6th, in Topeka. Rufus 'Bubba Gump' was born in High Point, NC on April 17, 1961, the son of the late Redell Terry and Luella (Tayrham) Vereen. He worked for Co-Van Moving Co. and Reliable Moving as a packer; he attended Leford High School, Thomasville, NC; he attended Pilgrim Baptist Church in Manhattan and the Ogden United Methodist Church. Rufus is survived by a daughter, Ashley Smith, of High Point, NC; a son,Deshawn Terry, of Manhattan; five sisters, Darlene Terry, of High Point, NC; Josephine Mitchell, of High Point, NC; Debra (Bernard) Howard, of Ogden; Jackie Terry, of Thomasville, NC; Caroline Vereen, of Grandview Plaza; two brothers, Walter 'Nick' and companion Mary Ann Jackson, of Manhattan; Bernard, (Missy) Terry, of Greensboro, NC; and a grandson: Weston Terry; and step-father, Richard Vereen, of Grandview Plaza. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers Johnny Terry and Robert Lee Terry. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 10th at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan. Prior to the service the family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00pm. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 14th at 2:00opm at the Solid rock Baptist Church in High Point, NC. Burial will follow the service at the Clifton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Kernersville, NC. The family requests donations to American Cancer Society and may be sent to the funeral home.
